48) Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition

Prepare for a dialogue-driven, text adventure game like no other.

Kentucky Route Zero is very much a cinematic visual novel-esque game that relies on story, narrative, and a unique graphical style to keep intrigue.

This collection for the Nintendo Switch contains the entire 5-part story and interludes that were released to tell the complete tale in a single package.

Specifically, the game revolves around a handful of characters and their interactions while giving the player free reign as to how each conversation plays out.

A must-play for those looking for an artistic and deep interactive experience that does not rely on quick reflexes or professional skills but more on intellect and decision making.

Speaking of anime, this game’s state-of-the-art visual style makes the game look nearly indistinguishable from the series it’s based on.

46) Astral Chain

Astral Chain is yet another fast action game from Platinum Games, the makers of Bayonetta.

But if the mature rated witch of Bayonetta is not your style, perhaps you’ll find Astral Chain’s sci-fi setting more to your liking.

Play as twin brother and sister police officers in order to stop an alien race from destroying the planet by utilizing creatures of your own that fight alongside you.

The game is accompanied by high production values and has voice acting to explain the story.

45) Cuphead

Cuphead is one of the most original games I’ve ever seen.

It’s a hard and challenging arcade shooter meant for seasoned players but has the unique visual style and audio style of 1930s Disney cartoons and cartoons of that era.

The visual and audio style, the challenging levels, and shooting gameplay are what make this game come to life.

Gameplay is centered around going through levels and destroying enemies while gaining power-ups.

Cuphead’s release on the Nintendo Switch is also quite significant because it’s one of the first Xbox exclusive releases to make its way on Nintendo’s popular hybrid console.

And it’s a darned good one.

43) Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is one of my most played games on the Nintendo Switch. I’ve clocked in over 100 hours and counting.

This game is a daily social farming simulator with a story that is as long as you want it to be.

Players are free to design their farms however they like, go fishing, grow produce, and create relationships with townsfolk.

These tasks are addicting and make time go by in the blink of an eye. The best part?

Nothing is set in stone and players get to enjoy life in Stardew Valley however they want.

41) Ikaruga

Ikaruga is a classic tough-as-nails arcade shooter re-released for the Nintendo Switch.

Players take control of flying fighter machines capable of switching between polarities.

The goal is to switch between black and white polarities, destroying enemies of the opposite polarity while soaring towards powerful bosses that wait at the end of each stage.

Stages in Ikaruga are designed perfectly and require precise hand-eye coordination.

I’m still trying to beat this classic after originally having played it on the Nintendo GameCube in the early 2000s.

The joy of playing Ikaruga is getting better until you’re able to pass each stage, one by one.

Good luck. You’ll need it.

38) Monster Hunter Rise

I’ve played Monster Hunter since the first entry, and I can safely say Monster Hunter Rise is just as fun as any iteration in the series and is the most inviting, beginner-friendly of any Monster Hunter game.

The goal in Monster Hunter Rise? To become a hunter and protect a village and its people from the hostile threat of rampaging monsters.

Gameplay focuses on battling monsters throughout sprawling areas in real-time, gathering parts from the monster and the environment, and crafting stronger armor and weapons from parts gathered.

Then, repeat the process and battle even larger and stronger monsters. You can play the entire game alone if you’re a solo player, or team up with up to 3 other players online to tackle the next big baddie.

I’ve played through Rise solo and in a group, and both provide immense challenge and joy.

Complete quests to open new quests and further the story, become proficient with one or all of the over a dozen weapon types, and craft the armor set of your dreams.

This is the fifth Metroid game and the first mainline entry in the series in nearly 20 years. The game continues the series’ story but does so in a manner that is unintrusive and inviting for new players.

Metroid Dread is personally one of my favorite games on Nintendo Switch, in which I beat over the course of 10 glorious nights. I loved it from the opening scene to the end of the credits.

13) INSIDE

Inside was one of my most anticipated games of 2018 and the game did not disappoint.

Why?

Because the same developers who made this game made one of my favorite games of all time, Limbo.

Check out this insane third-person action game today and thank me later.

For instance, you can battle monsters or show them mercy. The choice is up to you, but repercussions will be had.

4) Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris Effect: Connected is everything lovable about the falling block puzzler but with modern flair and an awesome soundtrack.

Gameplay is classic Tetris: connect falling shapes to clear lines and gain points. Lose if the blocks stack to the top of the screen.

Tetris Effect, however, adds unique neon visuals to enhance each stage, from brown desert landscapes to blue underwater hues.

A thematic and inspiring soundtrack helps this Tetris title standout, with each stage being a blast to play due to the background music.

Solo players can enjoy a romp through the cosmos in the story mode, tackling each stage to clear lines. Or, up to 4 to 8 players can challenge each other locally and online for some puzzle goodness.

Puzzle and Tetris fans can expect to enjoy approximately 3 to 12 plus hours of gameplay to beat the story mode and near infinite replay value by clearing lines for high scores in Tetris Effect: Connected on Nintendo Switch.

1) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Breath of the Wild is one of the best games of all time and you owe it to yourself to play this gem.

This fantastical open world is sprawling with enemies to combat, puzzles to solve, shrines to explore, weapons to pick up, characters to meet, and items to collect in order to cook dishes that replenish health.

See a place you want to visit? You can glide towards, walk or run to, or climb upon pretty much anything in the distance that you see.

The entire game is supplemented by a minimalist approach to music and storytelling yet steeped in lore and mystery as to what happened 100 years prior.

I beat Breath of the Wild twice and spent hundreds of hours in this game world, and I still want to explore and do more.

Explore, gather, fight, and solve puzzles for forever and a day.

This open-world reinvention of the Zelda series never gets stale.

What Is The Highest Rated Game On Switch?

The highest rated game on Nintendo Switch is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with an aggregate critic score of 97 out of 100 and an average user score of 87 out of 100. Super Mario Odyssey also has an aggregate critic score of 97 but has a higher average user score of 89.

The highest rated game on Nintendo Switch is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

For context, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released for the Nintendo Switch’s on the console’s launch day March 3, 2017, while Super Mario Odyssey released later that year on October 27, 2017.

These two titles have consistently ranked higher than every other game on the Nintendo Switch for half a decade, and have higher aggregate critic scores than any game on Sony PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.

Widely considered the best game in the Zelda series and a title every gamer should play, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a game I beat twice along with my spouse and sister-in-law with satisfaction and joy.

I, too, highly suggest it as a game you need to at least try out in your lifetime.

Super Mario Odyssey is also a fan favorite and return to the 3D sandbox approach from previous titles (such as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine) and has solid gameplay and items to collect.

Both games deserve the high accolades and praise due to their willingness to try new things and to bring back game design that players enjoyed years ago.
