Today, I’m going to show you how to find Super Mario World’s Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit. Now let’s get to it!
Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit is located at the end of the level just before the goal post on a yellow pipe up in the sky. Use the Cape Feather item to fly upward to reach the area, land on the yellow pipe, and then grab the key and insert it into the keyhole to unlock the Secret Exit.
Alternatively, you can use the Cape Feather item to fly with Yoshi and then hop off the green dinosaur mid-air to reach the area.
Lastly, you can simply wait and complete the Green Switch Palace later in the game in order to unlock green “!” blocks, come back to Donut Plains 1, and run up the green “!” blocks that lead directly to the Secret Exit.
Use the method that works best for you!
Now, let’s dive into a detailed picture guide of how to reach Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit.

Where Is Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit (Super Mario World)?
Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit is relatively easy to reach if you have a Cape Feather item and know how to use one (so make sure to grab a Cape Feather item during the level or beforehand).
this method requires a Cape Feather item
It’s also pretty easy to find once you know where to look. Plus, doing so only requires simple Mario techniques such as running, jumping, and flying.
Keep in mind, this method requires a Cape Feather item and assumes you are trying to reach the Secret Exit before reaching the Green Secret Palace later in the game.
- TIME: a few minutes
- DIFFICULTY: Low
NOTE: Super Mario World can be played via the Nintendo Switch Online SNES member app, the SNES Classic Mini System, and Nintendo 3DS/Nintendo Wii U digital shops among others methods.
1) Obtain A Cape Feather Power Up Item
You will need the Cape Feather item to reach Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit.
The easiest way to obtain a Cape Feather item in this stage is by jumping on top of a Super Koopa enemy with a glowing cape.
Defeating a Super Koopa with a standard jump attack will cause a Cape Feather to appear.
Grab the Cape Feather to become Super Mario!
Note: Standard Super Koopa without a flashing cape will not provide a Cape Feather power-up to appear once defeated.
2) Travel To The Volcano Lotus And Dragon Coin Platform
Traverse the level until you reach the Volcano Lotus and Dragon coin platform. This platform is near the end of the stage.
The Volcano Lotus enemy poses no real threat, so simply jump over it and avoid the fire it spews.
The Secret Exit is just after this point.
3) Defeat The Charging Chuck Atop The Three Blocks
Defeating the Charging Chuck enemy allows easier access to the Secret Exit.
You can either
- A) ignore the Charging Chuck standing on the three yellow blocks
- B) maneuver beneath the Charging Chuck and hit the block he’s standing on with a jump attack to defeat him
I suggest getting rid of this aggressive American Football player before continuing on.
4) Defeat the Four Super Koopas
The next area consists of three platforms (plus the ground) with four approaching Super Koopas. This area can be tricky to traverse.
You will need this area clear of enemies in order to gain speed, run, and fly to the Secret Exit.
The four Super Koopas will start by running to the left and then flying into the skies within a second or two.
Most importantly, the bottom most Super Koopa has a glowing cape. Jump on this guy to receive a Cape Feather item if you still haven’t obtained one by this point.
Now, hop on the backs of each Super Koopa or eat them with Yoshi to get rid of the foes.
5) Make A Running Start And Begin Flying Upwards
Maneuver to the ground level and position yourself near the yellow blocks that had Charging Chuck standing on them.
Then, run to the right until you gain enough speed to fly. Fly upwards into the sky in the direction of the yellow pipes.
Glide through the open space in the sky and land on the yellow pipe where the Secret Exit Key is resting.
6) Unlock The Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit
Grab the key (or put it in Yoshi’s mouth) and walk into the keyhole in order to unlock Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit.
You will exit Donut Plains 1 upon doing so and return to the world map.
Completing Donut Plains 1 Secret Exit will unlock a secret path that leads to the Donut Secret 1 level.
What Are Super Mario World Secret Exits?
Super Mario World Secret Exits are alternative level exits that are usually hidden or somewhere off the conventional path leading to the primary goal post.
Check the Super Mario World map to see which levels have Secret Exits. Levels on the world map marked with a red dot have alternate level exits.
Every alternate exit has a Secret Exit Key that must be obtained to use on the Secret Exit keyhole. Typically, the two are close together.
Grab the Secret Exit Key and walk into the keyhole to exit the level via the Secret Exit.
Completing a stage by taking the Secret Exit will unlock new paths and levels in Super Mario World. Find all Secret Exits to experience everything Super Mario World has to offer.
