The Coolest Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fall Update Additions
There are 3 exciting new features Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are sure to love.
1a) Planting, Farming, Growing Pumpkins
For the first time ever, Animal Crossing allows villagers to farm.
And what better way to introduce farming than with pumpkins!
Die-hard fans are eager to create the pumpkin patch of their dreams and already have the right plot of land picked out for the occasion.
1b) How do you get pumpkin seeds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Players can purchase pumpkin starts by talking with Leif whenever he shows up to town (pumpkin seeds are called pumpkin starts in the game).
Simply talk to Leif at his shop in front of Resident Services and purchase away. The helpful sloth will carry pumpkin starts all year round so every day can be pumpkin day.
Pumpkin starts can also be purchased from Nook’s Cranny, but Tom Nook and family only sell pumpkin starts throughout October.
Stock up if Nook’s Cranny is your preferred retailer of choice.
Lastly, the color of your fully grown pumpkin is random. Orange, green, yellow, and white–what color will you get? Only time will tell.
1c) How much do pumpkin seeds cost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Luckily, Animal Crossing; New Horizons’ pumpkin starts are inexpensive.
Pumpkin starts can be purchased for 280 Bells at Nook’s Cranny.
Leif, however, sells pumpkin starts at a discounted 140 Bells each during October.
1d) How do I grow pumpkins in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Growing pumpkins is almost as easy as buying the pumpkin seeds.
Simply plant pumpkin starts on vacant land and water them daily. Pumpkins will begin to grow in no time.
Make sure there are no rocks, furniture, or other items in the exact place you are trying to plant the pumpkin starts.
It is recommended that you clear a plot of land and reserve it solely for your pumpkin patch (as seen in the image above).
1e) What can you do with the pumpkins?
You can create a host of new DIY projects such as Halloween themed lawn decorations and more.
Buying, planting, and farming pumpkins adds a whole new level of excitement to the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
2) Revisit Dreams
Animal Crossing: New Horizons added the ability to visit other peoples towns from around the globe by going to sleep and exploring dreams.
Now, towns you have visited in the past can be revisited with this Fall 2020 update.
This is great for those wanting to head back to a favorite town once visited (a feature that was previously unavailable until now).
Why visit dream islands?
Visiting dream towns is a great way to get inspiration for your village and to see how other people are being creative within the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community.
Throw on that night gown and explore a new town . . . of your dreams!

- Growing Pumpkins – Deck out your home and island for all your awesome autumnal occasions by first purchasing pumpkin starts in-game from Leif year-round or from Nook’s Cranny during October. Once your pumpkins are grown, they can be harvested and put to use in pumpkin-based DIY projects.
- Prepare for Halloween – Pumpkins are just the beginning of the Halloween-themed festivities coming to your island. With the big day just around the corner, you can start stocking up on candy early. Find your style for Halloween night by purchasing costumes, like a mage’s dress, at the Able Sisters shop during the month of October. You can even procure body paint and colored eye contacts by exchanging Nook Miles. You’ll also be able to learn Halloween DIY projects from your fellow residents. On Halloween night, your neighbors will be getting in the holiday spirit with costumes of their own.
- Halloween Night Celebrations – When Halloween night arrives on Oct. 31, after 5 p.m., neighbors will gather in the plaza, which will be adorned with an array of Halloween decorations. You’ll also receive a visit from a mysterious guest, Jack, the “czar of Halloween.” By giving Jack lollipops and candy, you’ll earn spooky in-game rewards. Be sure to save some candy for your neighbors, too, or you might get pranked! Luckily, you can learn a couple of new Reactions to properly express your feelings of fear.
- Revisiting Dreams – The ability to take a nap and visit other islands within dreams was introduced this summer. Now, you’ll be able to easily revisit dreams from a list, making it even easier to visit some of your favorite islands.***
- NookLink App Update – The NookLink Service in the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app is also receiving an update in early October. With the update, you’ll be able to use your smart device to perform Reactions in the game.**** How about trying it out for this occasion to let your island visitors know exactly how you feel about their mischievous tricks and treats?
We hope you enjoy the fall season’s fun. The next update will be coming in late November. Look forward to more information in the coming months.
