Zombies Ate My Neighbors is the perfect two-player cooperative action game.

The goal is to shoot zombies and countless horror-themed enemies with water guns and other fun weapons while saving your neighbors from the monster horde’s clutches.

The game includes dozens, and dozens, and dozens (and did I say dozens) of stages that progressively get more challenging but remain fun all the way to the end.

My brothers and I had so much fun with this gem when it was released in 1993, I still argue it provides some of the best multiplayer fun a game can offer.

It’s a perfect game to play during the Halloween season, too.

2) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time is one of the best action games and multiplayer games for the Super Nintendo.

Choose one of the four legendary Ninja Turtles and explore a visually stunning representation of the most iconic era of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with superb music, fun stages, and excellent boss fights.

I can still remember playing this at my cousins house and having fun playing one of the best Ninja Turtle games of all time.

I highly recommend this classic for those looking for something action-oriented to play alone or with a friend.

3) Mega Man X

Mega Man X is a showcase of what the Super Nintendo had to offer.

The game is a fast-paced action game with one of the most memorable soundtracks of all time, unforgettable stages, and cool bosses,.

This entry is an unparalleled update to the Mega Man franchise that needs to be played.

It’s so easy to simply jump into one of the eight stages and explore, finding secrets before beating the boss at the end of each level.

Figuring out which order to defeat the bosses is key and finding every secret upgrade is both challenging and rewarding.

Nothing feels better than being a fully powered Mega Man X before taking on the final boss.

My mom and grandma bought Mega Man X for me on my birthday many moons ago, and it has since remained at the top of my “favorite games of all time” list.

It’s such a fun interactive experience, I’ve managed to master it to the point in which I can casually beat the game in one hour. Such an excellent game you should definitely try.

AVAILABLE: Mega Man X Legacy Collection

4) Street Fighter 2 Turbo

Street Fighter 2 Turbo stands as one of the most fun fighting games ever made.

It may seem simple and lacking content by modern standards, but this historical fighting game from the 1990’s provides quality combative action for one or two players.

The now iconic cast of 12 characters are selectable to play against computer controlled opponents in the game’s story mode or against a friend or stranger in two-player combat.

Battle around the world across equally memorable stages while some of the best video game themes composed plays in the background.

Great joy can be had from whittling the health of the opponent by learning moves, combos, and strategy and enjoying the competitive matches as the result of doing so.

My brothers and I owned a copy of Street Fighter 2 Turbo growing up, making it one of the top games played on the weekends.

This is especially true because my older brother loved fighting games and would insist we play this classic gem in intense competitive matches that combined the joy of games with sibling rivalry.

I still play this classic to this day and believe it holds up as a great introduction to fighting games as well as a premier game in its genre.

5) Super Castlevania 4

Super Castlevania 4 is a short-but-sweet horror themed action title about thwarting Dracula and his minions of evil.

The game is packed with visual detail that makes each eerie level come alive from the opening stage and courtyard to the inside of Dracula’s castle.

An outstanding soundtrack makes traversing through each challenging level a joy, while the action is simple to understand with responsive controls and a few buttons to remember.

Jump, whip, and fight each foe on the way to the end of each stage and the inevitable boss fight that await.

I love the horror genre, and Super Castlevania 4 is one of the best horror themed games on the Super Nintendo.

If you’re looking for a game to play during the Halloween season, I suggest this one.

AVAILABLE: Castlevania Anniversary Collection

6) Super Metroid

Super Metroid is a masterpiece of a game and one of the best single player experiences in its generation.

The game is one huge interconnected map with countless upgrades, secrets, and hidden rooms for players to find over the course of their adventure.

The world is meticulously crafted that everything has a purpose, allowing players to unravel how to navigate the underground corridors however the player chooses to do so.

The ultimate goal may be to find power-ups to make the main character stronger while exploring an alien planet and blasting a host of creatures both big and small, but the true strength of this game shines in the moment to moment gameplay that is just a joy to experience.

The various areas of the game are fun to explore, the ambiance music is a treat to be heard, and the environmental details are visually pleasing from the opening cutscene to the ending credits.

I thought this was the most graphically stunning game I ever saw when I spotted it at a clothing store kiosk in the mall at a young age.

I eventually received a copy of the classic and loved it ever since. Perhaps you will, too, once you play this all-time classic.

7) Yoshi’s Island

Yoshi’s Island is the second main Mario title on the Super Nintendo, and it’s just as good as the first.

Players control the green dinosaur Yoshi while protecting baby Mario strapped on its back.

The game is a grand adventure with many stages and collectibles, encouraging multiple attempts at each stage in order to complete-it-all.

What’s more, the game has an unique visual presentation that makes it look like a watercolor storybook that just has to be seen.

It was such a momentous day when my uncle and aunt gifted my younger brother with a new slim-downed Super Nintendo console with a copy of Yoshi’s Island. We couldn’t stop playing this masterpiece!

I still recall the satisfaction I had when I ultimately found every single collectible in the game thus receiving a game completion rate of 100%.

This remains one of my proudest gaming achievements ever, in one of the most fun games I’ve ever played.

Super Mario World is an all-time classic, the very first game released for the Super Nintendo, and is fully enjoyable decades after its release.

The game is a colorful romp through dinosaur land in which players control the Mario Brothers in order to complete over 70 levels. And there are plenty of boss fights, power-up items, and secrets to find along the way.

I consider this one or two player journey  to be the equivalent to “required reading or viewing” for anyone looking to start gaming as a hobby.

It’s a classic with quality level design and an upbeat soundtrack that just makes playing the game so much fun.

Super Mario World was the very first game I ever played for the Super Nintendo and came with the console my mom and grandma purchased for me.

I still enjoy playing through the game whenever the mood strikes, and I recently just beat the game, too!

9) Super Mario Kart

Super Mario Kart launched as a premier racing game and one of the few standout racing games on Super Nintendo, a fact that remains to this very day.

The game is ridiculous fun alone or with a friend, racing around colorful Mario Brothers themed tracks with recognizable characters while utilizing thematic items to thwart foes and increase one’s chances of winning the race.

Plus, there is just so much stuff to do in the game which keeps gaming sessions fresh.

I always enjoyed trying to obtain first place on all courses and cups, beating every course as quick as possible for the fastest times in Time Trial, and racing against friends and family in the competitive Battle Mode.

In fact, playing Super Mario Kart and its Battle Mode with my brothers are some of my fondest cooperative, multiplayer gaming memories due to Super Mario Kart being simple, timeless fun.

10) Kirby Super Star

Kirby Super Star is the Kirby game everyone new to the series should play first due to its polish, charm, and breadth of game modes.

Marketed as being “8 Games In One”, this classic colorful adventure stars the pink puffball Kirby as he takes on eight separate small games including a shortened remake of Kirby’s first game, a racing game, multiple story-driven games of various lengths, and mini-games among others.

The visuals are appealing and as vibrant as ever while the soundtrack is absolute upbeat trademark Kirby from the title screen onward.

My older brother and I always enjoyed playing Kirby Super Star’s “The Great Cave Offensive” because it contained 60 collectibles to find and a vast area to explore, making it feel epic in nature.

This is one classic you must try for yourself!

11) Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong Country has perhaps one of the most visually ambitious graphics of its era along with a timeless soundtrack and a host of superb yet challenging levels.

The goal is to navigate Donkey Kong and his pals through numerous levels across a giant island to ultimately fight the dreaded end boss.

This 2D game has 3D visuals which was groundbreaking for its time and was accompanied by musical tracks that are still lauded as some of the best video game themes ever created.

The game can be challenging with some levels that may even seem impossible to finish.

But the joy is had in trial and error, improving one’s skills, and overcoming what was once thought to be insurmountable.

Donkey Kong Country was the game I wanted for the Super Nintendo but never had the privilege to own in cartridge format.

I played it at kiosks and perhaps even at a friend’s house but the first time I owned this classic gem was through the Nintendo Wii’s digital download store.

It was a blast to play on the original console, on the Nintendo Wii, and now on the Nintendo Switch.

12) The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Pas can arguably be considered the best Super Nintendo game of all time.

It’s an epic adventure game across a sprawling world full of threats, treasures, numerous dungeons, and denizens to interact with.

Players have the honor to control the iconic Nintendo character Link on his journey to save Princess Zelda from the clutches of evil.

Gameplay is fun with new items being obtained regularly that change how the game is played.

Multiple dungeons of increasing difficulty are peppered throughout the lands populated with ingenious puzzles and devious monsters to contend with.

The game is a joy with tight controls that makes every movement feel responsive, colorful visuals that make the world come to life, and a phenomenal great soundtrack that fits every occasion.

I highly suggest every Zelda fan, Nintendo fan, and video game fan to play this classic and stick with it because it’s truly a timeless game.

This might just be the Super Nintendo game I played the most.

My family rented the game before I eventually purchased a used copy at a second-hand shop. And I’ve returned to the game each time Nintendo released it in digital format across its many consoles.

I will keep replaying this timeless classic because it’s just that good.
