Walmart Video Game Return And Refund Policy

At Walmart, video games can be returned and refunded for their full amount up to 90 days after purchase. Opened and unopened games can be returned for a refund with or without a receipt. Of course, any return may be denied at the store manager’s discretion.

Mangers can decline any return even if you have a receipt for various reasons.

Damaged video games, video games without their original box and extras, or activated game codes are prime reasons a video game return can be denied at Walmart.

And the retail store does not require a receipt for returns and refunds. However, a proof of purchase must be shown.

A valid ID issued by the government, the debit/credit card used to purchase the video game, or the email or phone number for online purchases can all be used to validate a return instead of a receipt.

Walmart’s Video Game Exchange Policy

Walmart allows video games to be exchanged for an identical item with or without a receipt up to 90 days after purchase. A valid proof of purchase such as a valid ID or phone number may be required, and all video game exchanges are at the store manager’s discretion.

Walmart allows video games to be exchanged for an identical item

Overall, video games exchanges at Walmart follow similar guidelines as returns. Customers have three months to exchanged a game for an identical game as long as the item has not been damaged by the customer.

Defective video games and games purchased for the wrong console by mistake are both valid reasons for exchanging a video game at Walmart.

Walmart’s Video Game Warranty Policy

Walmart provides optional 2 and 3 year video game warranties provided by Allstate insurance. The warranty protects video games from accidental damage, scratches, cracks, item failure during normal use, wear, and other common defects. Game price and term length dictates the cost of the warranty.

Walmart provides optional 2 and 3 year video game warranties

The warranty cost for less expensive games is lower than higher priced games.

For example, it costs $2 for 2 years of protection on titles priced $10 to $20 while it costs $6 for 2 years of protection on games priced $50 to $60.

GAME PRICEWARRANTY COST*
$10+ to $20$2 (2yr) / $3 (3yr)
$20+ to $30$3 (2yr) / $3.50 (3yr)
$30+ to $40$4 (2yr) / $5 (3yr)
$40+ to $50$5 (2yr) / $6 (3yr)
$50+ to $60$6 (2yr) / $7 (3yr)
$60+ to $80$8 (2yr) / $9 (3yr)
$80+ to $100$10 (2yr) / $12 (3yr)
$100+ to $150$16 (2yr) / $22 (3yr)

*Warranty costs are subject to change.

In general, Walmart’s video game warranties are in line with (and a tad higher in some cases) than industry standard.

However, the store’s generous refund and exchange policies–as well as Walmart’s attention to customer satisfaction–ensures customers are taken care of in case of emergency.

I recommend getting a warranty on video games and consoles purchased for children or on video games with a high price.

Walmart’s Video Game Price Match Policy

Walmart does not have a price matching policy with competing stores. This is due to Walmart’s focus on having the lowest prices. The only products eligible for price matching in-store are identical items purchased on Walmart.com.

Walmart does not allow video game matching with competing stores

You will be able to purchase a video game at your local Walmart that matches the lower price of the same game found on Walmart.com.

With that said, video games are often cheaper at Walmart than competing stores, which reduces the need to price match in most cases.
